State Laws Crack Down on
Nuvo International
There are new details in
an investigation of
so-called medispas --
clinics that looks more
like a spa, performing
medical cosmetic
procedures at malls. Two
Bay Area women were
badly burned by laser
hair removal at Nuvo
International and now
the company has declared
bankruptcy, just as
state officials launch
an investigation.
Nuvo has 12 clinics in
the Bay Area and
Sacramento ,
supervised by three
doctors. When we went
into Nuvo's Richmond location, there wasn't even a manager around, let
alone a doctor. Also,
supervising doctor
Carolyn Million's
primary specialty is
colorectal surgery, not
dermatology.
Nurses
are allowed to perform
laser treatments if a
doctor supervises, and
the doctor doesn't have
to be on location.
"Whether the supervisor
visits every day or once
a month, we leave it
under the discretion of
a supervisor,". The law
does require the owner
of a clinic to be a
doctor. Nuvo's owner
isn't, but his California franchises are under a medical director's name.
That's legal. Critics
say it's borderline and
they have a name for it:
doc in the box.
Beautiful
Forever has a qualified
PA on our staff who may
offer additional laser
training above and
beyond what is offered
by the laser company.

Secrets to a
Great Logo
Your logo is a visual
representation of everything
your company stands for.
Think of McDonald's golden
arches or the Nike
swoosh--these two impressive
logos embody these companies
well. But many companies
still skimp on developing
this key identity piece.
Ideally, your company logo
enhances potential customers
and partners' crucial first
impression of your business.
A good logo can build
loyalty between your
business and your customers,
establish a brand identity,
and provide the professional
look of an established
enterprise.
There are basically
three kinds of logos.
Font-based logos consist
primarily of a type
treatment. The logos of
IBM, Microsoft and Sony,
for instance, use type
treatments with a twist
that makes them
distinctive. Then there
are logos that literally
illustrate what a
company does, such as
when a house-painting
company uses an
illustration of a brush
in its logo. And
finally, there are
abstract graphic
symbols--such as Nike's
swoosh--that become
linked to a company's
brand.
While brainstorming logo
ideas by yourself is a
crucial step in creating
your business image,
trying to create a logo
completely on your own
is a mistake. It may
seem like the best way
to avoid the high costs
of going to a
professional design
firm. Creating a logo
sounds easy, doesn't it?
It can be. Just remember
to keep your customers
and the nature of your
business in mind when
you put it all together.
In time, you'll have
succeeded in building
equity in your
trademark, and it will
become a positive and
recognizable symbol of
your product or service.

Who's Using Botox and
Why?
Most Are Working
Moms Who Want to Look
More Relaxed, Says Study
Most Botox users are
middle-aged working
mothers in their 40s and
50s, according to a new
ASAPS survey. The most
frequently cited reason
in the survey was "to
look more relaxed, less
stressed."
The Aesthetic Surgery
Education & Research
Foundation (ASERF), a
research branch of the
ASAPS, did the survey.
The two-page
questionnaire was mailed
to more than 1,600
doctors who are members
of the ASAPS; 1,048
surveys were processed.
Surprising
Botox Results
"The results of this
survey may come as a
surprise to some
people," says Leroy
Young, MD, in a news
release. Young is
the chairman of the
ASAPS' committee on
nonsurgical
procedures and has
also led the ASERF's
research committee.

What is A Curl Lift?
Curl Lift is a simple
procedure that offers
quick results, easy
recovery and a subtle
lift without surgery.
Threads are placed under
the skin to do the
lifting without cutting,
and threads can easily
be removed, added or
changed. The entire
procedure is performed
under local anesthesia,
with most patients able
to return to work in 24
hours. Only local
anesthesia is required
to perform this in
office procedure, and
only takes approximately
30 minutes per site to
complete. The Curl Lift
is the perfect
alternative to those who
would not consider a
traditional facelift, or
are not quite ready.
How Does A Curl Lift
Work?
“The Curl Lift has been
associated with
"Invisible Lift",
"Suture Suspension",
Soft Lift", and "Thread
Lift". While somewhat
similar in principle to
the FeatherLift, the
Curl Lift is a more
predictable procedure
whose results, while
still subtle, are more
noticeable.
Who Can Have a Curl Lift?
The best candidates for
the Curl Lift are young to
middle age patients who are
looking to lift their brows,
cheeks, jowl or neck. The
Curl Lift will soften
nasolabial folds, as well as
marionette lines. Those
patients who have already
experienced a facelift may
benefit from the Curl Lift
to restore the waning
results.
